What is Search Intent?
Search intent is the underlying goal behind a search query: whether the user wants to learn, compare, navigate, or buy.
The four classic intent types are informational (learn), commercial (compare options), transactional (buy), and navigational (find a specific site). Matching content format to intent is critical for ranking.
An informational query needs a guide, not a sales page. A commercial query needs a comparison. Misreading intent is one of the most common reasons content fails to rank despite good keyword targeting.
